Unfortunately today is seems that we hear reports about sexual assault more often than not. It happens on college campuses and at high school parties. It happens to married people and to single people. It happens to both guys and girls, younger and older.
To put it in perspective:
- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience violence from their partners in their lifetimes.
- 1 in 3 teens experiences sexual or physical abuse or threats from a boyfriend or girlfriend in one year.
- 1 in 5 women are survivors of rape.
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual violence in their lives.
- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men were sexually abused before the age of 18.
Each April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The campaign for this year is “Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.” The campaign calls on all individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions to change ourselves and the systems surrounding us to build racial equity and respect.
Consent & Respect is a comprehensive Title IX training about consent, healthy relationships, bystander empowerment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking. This course satisfies the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (SaVE Act) requirement for education programming.
Supporting all students in higher education is critically important to ensuring student success. Train your students and staff on the important topics of diversity and inclusion to foster a safe and supportive campus this year. Consent & Respect will:
- Promote student awareness of unconscious bias and the use of microaggressions
- Help students understand how diversity and inclusion plays a role in creating a safe campus culture for all members
- And so much more!
One way you can stand up to sexual assault is by participating in #WearTealDay next week on April 5th. Teal is the official color of SAAM. By wearing teal, you can show your support for survivors of sexual assault and help raise awareness.
