As we celebrate 25 years of service in behavioral health, we’re taking this milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the valuable lessons we’ve learned along the way. We’ve worked with over 4 million individuals in thousands of colleges, secondary schools and courts/agencies in the country. Here are seven essential insights from our journey:

1. Prevention and Intervention Go Hand in Hand

According to the CDC, implementing prevention programs that focus on education and skill-building can reduce substance use among young people by up to 35% (2020). Evidence-based prevention initiatives provide students with the tools they need to make healthier choices, underscoring the impact of proactive education in shaping safer communities.

2. Early Intervention Reduces Long-Term Risks

Research shows that early intervention can reduce future substance misuse by as much as 40% among young people (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2020). By providing resources and support at the beginning of students’ high school or college journeys, we can help them establish healthy habits that promote long-term success and well-being.

3. Personalization Increases Impact

Our work has shown that personalized, evidence-based tools make a significant difference in changing behaviors. Programs like eCHECKUP TO GO offer personalized feedback and motivational interviewing techniques, which provide students with individualized insights. This approach creates a personal connection to the material, leading to more effective outcomes and longer-lasting behavioral change.

4. Interactive Content Engages and Resonates

Students often tune out when presented with dry, lecture-style lessons that lack engagement and relevance. Our courses incorporate drag-and-drop scenarios and personalized reflection, so students don’t find themselves clicking mindlessly to meet requirements.

5. One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Over the years, it’s become clear that each campus is unique, and our solutions must be adaptable to meet varied needs. From small colleges with limited resources to large universities with complex infrastructures, customization is key. By offering flexible options and campus-specific course customization, we help institutions create a tailored experience that aligns with their goals, culture, and student body.

6. Data Drives Change

By utilizing feedback and outcome data, we provide institutions with insights into student behavior patterns, helping administrators tailor their prevention and intervention efforts.

7. Strong Partnerships Drive Success

We’ve learned that collaboration with institutions, researchers, and industry partners amplifies our impact. Our partnerships with organizations like San Diego State University’s eCHECKUP TO GO and Maxient have strengthened our programs, creating a robust support system that addresses a wide range of student needs.

Here’s to 25 years of empowering students! We are looking forward to more!
